Research

Scalable quantum networks have enormous promise to unlock exciting new science capabilities and novel and powerful applications in physics, accelerators, nuclear reactors, quantum computing, cybersecurity, and other fields. To realize the promised advantage of a quantum internet of things, critical needs are:

(1) outstanding quantum network fundamental science and solutions to the critical engineering challenges,

(2) interdisciplinary synergies of researchers with relevant expertise across departments and institutions who must work together in close collaboration with national laboratories and industries, and

(3) a highly trained interdisciplinary quantum work force.

To address these needs, UGA and UTK propose integrated and transformative research thrusts catalyzed through interdisciplinary synergies in experimental, computational, and engineering research in close alliance with ORNL and its Quantum Science Center (QSC), and with key industries.
